Q:I have a neighbor that has a young teen age daughter that has found herself in the family way, she is scared to tell her parents but confided in me.what should I do or should I even do anything at all to help her? she isnt my child.
A: I am assuming you mean pregnant? We as adults (most of us) have that urge to protect children, even when we did not produce those children. Here is what you need to ask yourself. What are her parents like? Do you think they will over react? Most important what about the father. Where is he at? What does he have to say about this?
Being a teen is hard enough without the added stress of pregnancy. She probably feels alone, scared and for some reason has felt comfortable enough to come to you with this information. Teens are always afraid to disappoint our parents even when it seems like they are lashing out, or go and get themselves in situations like this. They have to learn from their own mistakes as much as us parents want them to listen and learn from what we had to go through its not like that, we are human we are curious by nature.
So with that said, sit down and talk to her about it. Go with her to her parents to tell them, she needs support in any way she can get. In all reality its not your problem but if you can help her get to her parents then that is the first step.
Just take a deep breath i know you feel like you shouldn't be involved but everyone needs a lil help sometimes and just so happens the one person reaching out to you in a teen, dont feel just because she is not an adult she doesn't deserve the same help you would give an adult if they came to you with some problem in their life.
If you need help getting information for her contact Rev. Lisa, and she will contact me and we will find help in your area.
Good Luck!
